Reverend Dr. Eugene Callender is an internationally renowned
and respected speaker and lecturer. Please

speakers packet. To request more information on how
to bring Dr. Callender to your next corporate or
university event, please contact Lorena Rostig at

Dr. Callenders' career covers a broad span of
social, political and devotional activism, from
walking up the broken stairs of Harlem tenements
slums to serving our nation on five presidential
commissions under five separate presidents. His
tireless work for his ministry is rooted in his deep
conviction that the dignity of human beings is
sacred and that people should not be judged by
external convictions which are arbitrarily assigned
in life, but rather by the possibilities inherent in
being a child of God.
He has been described by
the New York Daily News as one of our “contemporary
superstars,” and by the New York Times as one of the
26 most outstanding clergy members in New York City.
His focus and concerns have been the “disinherited”:
the voiceless who have needed a voice, the oppressed
who have needed a liberator.
Most recently, Dr. Callender was referenced on page 165 in
the book "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. It
was Dr. Callender's distinct privilege to visit Elizabeth at
a speaking engagement immediately following her appearance
on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
"Dr.
Eugene Callender is a Civic Saint. And to be a Civic
Saint requires a lot of good deeds and an occasional
miracle.”
-Mario Cuomo, Former Governor of New York
Dr. Callender is currently writing his memoirs about his
years in the ministry, serving in the civil rights movement,
and making a difference in local and national politics. He
continues to guest preach, officiate wedding ceremonies and
funeral services, and mentor young people. He enjoys jazz
music, impressionist art, and going to the gym. Dr.
Callender is the proud father of one daughter, the
grandfather of one grandson, and the great-grandfather of a
beautiful great granddaughter.
